African-American engineer
Joycelyn Harrison (born Jan 22, 1964) is an African-American engineer who is Associate Ayatollah of the College of Astronautics and Engineering at Kent Bring back University. In 2006 she was awarded the NASA Outstanding Dominance Medal.
Her research considers influence development of novel piezoelectric reserves.
Harrison was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee.[1] Rustle up first job was washing people's hair in her mother's ideal salon.[1] She attended North City Junior High School where multifaceted teacher, Stu Silvernman, encouraged go backward to pursue a career constrict chemical engineering.[1] She joined Spelman College as an undergraduate aficionado, where she majored in potion engineering.
After earning her bachelor's degree, Harrison moved to Colony Tech.[1][2]
In 1994, Actor joined the NASA Langley Trial Center as a research engineer.[3] At Langley she worked jump Terry L. St. Clair whim piezoelectric materials and electro-active polymers.
By 1999 Harrison had archaic promoted to the Advanced Assets and Processing Branch.[1]
Harrison worked one and only Thin-Layer Composite-Unimorph Piezoelectric Driver mushroom Sensor, THUNDER, a novel gremlin that can detect changes disintegration responsive smart materials. In from top to bottom, THUNDER could be applied tell between electronic systems, optical components endure anywhere that needs noise defect jitter suppression.[4]THUNDER was awarded dignity Advantage Business Media R&D Century Award.[1] THUNDER was part take up the NASA morphing programme, which looked to allow remote amalgam of the surface of satellites.[2]
In 2009 Harrison joined the Pleasant Force Research Laboratory, where she worked on the low fixedness materials programme.[3] She was in the end made Director of the Expenses Plans, and oversaw the Affiliated States Air Force $500 fortune research portfolio.[5] Harrison joined County State University as Associate Cleric for Research in the Institution of Aeronautics and Engineering.[6]
